Most good leaders have the ability to spot great talent. But it’s the rare leaders who bet on that young talent ahead of its time.when a leader places bets on young talent, the whole team benefits. For example Many years ago There was a match going on India Vs Australia . Dhoni was the captain for the Indian Team . Sehwag is an extraordinary player we all know that but in that particular match Sehwag could not score much. Now The crowd in Karnataka state cricket association ground were expecting rahul dravid on pitch But there was a surprise Dhoni decided to send young Cheteshwar Pujara to bat and that was his debue . Pujara had already failed in his first innings but yet dhoni had full trust on pujara and send pujara at No 3 instead of Rahul Dravid . And pujara scored 72 runs and saved the match and India won the match .Now just imagine if pujara would have failed then many seniors , media and many people in crowd would have criticized Dhoni for his decision .This is the quality of true leaders they bet on Young talent’s without worrying about criticism. This was an example from the book “The secret of leadership” by Prakash Iyer .
We have one more example In 1999 Jack ma started his business Alibaba.com and he was in need of funding so that his business could sustain. Many investors rejected him for only reason that he had no past business experience and saying that alibaba.com is a terrible model. But there was one leader from japan Masayoshi son who decided to bet on young jack ma. Masayoshi son says that he liked the way how jack ma inspired the young chinese to work that made him invest 20 million dollars on young jack and rest is history as we know that now Alibaba is worth 460 Billion dollars. That 20 million dollars turned into billions of dollars.
So This rare quality to bet on young talents is found in very few leaders. This quality seperates them from others.
